THE ARTWORK:
This print depicts a Haetae "해태", a mythical creature with the head of a lion, the body of a tiger, and the legs of a dragon. The Haetae's head represents strength and courage, its body represents power and wisdom, and its legs represent speed and agility.
It is said to be able to ward off evil spirits and protect the innocent. It is also associated with judgment and justice. During the Joseon dynasty, sculptures of the Haetae were used in front of important buildings, as their image was trusted to be able to protect from fire disasters. it is still often found guarding temples and other important places in Korea. Nowadays is also one of the symbols of the capital, Seoul.

THE KOREAN WRITINGS:
"Wherever you are, Haetae, there is justice without partiality"
This is a hymn to the popular guardian of justice represented by the Haetae and to impartial justice itself.
Let this guardian protect your days and inspire your judgments.
